BIRDING TOUR ITINERARIES

Birding BA tour itineraries are estimative since my tours are designed to fulfil the needs of the Clients and therefore they are open to change.

Black-and-rufous Warbling-finch (Poospiza nigrorufa)

COSTANERA SUR ECOLOGIC RESERVE:

We will meet in the hotel or in one of the 2 main entrances of the reserve (“Brasil” or “Viamonte”) as previously convined, at the convined hour (preferably early in the morning). Then we will walk along the main paths of the reserve, looking for the most remarkable species in the area, by using our sight and hearing. The tour will conclude at noon, when we can have lunch in one of the small parrillas in front of the reserve, if the Client prefers so. Total hours: 3 to 4. Tuesday to Sunday (the reserve is closed on Mondays).


Red-crested Cardinal (Paroaria coronata)

COSTANERA SUR & VICENTE LÓPEZ ECOLOGIC RESERVES:

We will meet in the hotel or in one of the 2 main entrances of Costanera Sur reserve (“Brasil” or “Viamonte”) as previously convined, at the convined hour (preferably early in the morning). We will walk along the main paths of the reserve, looking for the most remarkable species in the area, by using our sight and hearing. At noon we can make a stop for lunch in front of the reserve (this can happen whenever the Client decides to). After lunch we will move to Vicente López reserve, located in the North of “Gran Buenos Aires” urban area (30-45 minutes by car). There we will be looking for aquatic birds and riverside forest's species, such as the Red-rumped Warbling-finch. After that we will conclude the tour. Total hours: 5 to 7. Tuesday to Sunday (Costanera Sur reserve is closed on Mondays).


Rufous-sided Crake (Laterallus melanophaius)

VICENTE LÓPEZ & COSTANERA NORTE ECOLOGIC RESERVES (in rainy or after-storm days):

We will meet in the hotel at the convined hour (preferably early in the morning) and leave by car to Vicente López Ecologic Reserve. There we will be birding, looking for some aquatic and riverside forest's species for 1 and a half or 2 hours. Then we will return to BA city, to Costanera Norte Natural Reserve (located in “Ciudad Universitaria”) to look for some other aquatic birds. After it we can have lunch in one of the campus cafeterias and conclude the tour. Total hours: 4 to 6. Monday to Sunday.


Scarlet-headed Blackbird (Amblyramphus holosericeus)

OTAMENDI NATURAL RESERVE:

We will meet in the hotel early in the morning and leave by car or van (for small groups) to Otamendi Natural Reserve which is located 70 km North of Buenos Aires city (near the city of Campana). On the way we will make a stop in a gas station to buy meals and drinks, and to have a coffee if the Client decides to. While in the reserve we will be birding along the “Islas Malvinas” road, walking and by car, a total distance that comprises 5 km. There we will look for Otamendi's specialties, such as the Diademed Tanager, Scarlet-headed Blackbird and the rare Straight-billed Reedhaunter, among many other species. We will have lunch by the road, in the shade of the reserve's trees. In the afternoon we will return to the hotel in BA. Total hours: half or full day (5 to 7 hours). Monday to Sunday.


Black-and-white Monjita (Xolmis dominicanus)

SOUTHERN ENTRE RÍOS:

We will meet in the hotel early in the morning and leave by car or van (for small groups) to Southern Entre Ríos province, located approximately 180 km from BA city. On the way we will make a stop in a gas station to buy meals and drinks, and to have a coffee if the Client decides to. We will start birding in an "Espinal forest" area, looking for the plenty of bird species of the region (Furnariids, Tyraniids and raptors, among many others). We will be birding from the rural roads of the area. Then we will visit a water stream area to look for aquatic birds (ducks, teals, spoonbills, herons and migratory sandpipers). After that we will continue moving to the North, to visit some fields, trying to find the very scarce Black-and-white Monjita, Saffron-cowled Blackbird and (in the summer) the migratory Seedeaters and Upland Sandpiper, among others. We will look for Rheas and Tinamous too. At noon we will have lunch by the road, in the shade of the trees. Late in the afternoon we will return to Buenos Aires (arriving in the evening). Total hours: full day (more than 8 hours, likely more than 12). Only weekends (for small groups ask for availability during the week).
